Membership Guidelines

We see ourselves primarily as a community of faith - faithful people who join together to work for justice in our city. This community includes other organizations and groups who share our values and commitments in working for justice.

We are engaged in uniting the entire county behind TNT’s agenda. Our name says it all: Tying Nashville Together, which means that we seek partnerships with any and all groups who share our vision and goals.
Our values are shaped by our faith commitments. Our faith defines who we are, what we do, and how we do it. However, we welcome all persons and institutions of good will who are willing to join us in working to achieve our vision of a city where no one is left behind.

The majority of our direct recruiting efforts will be directed towards faith-based institutions (congregations and religious communities). However, we welcome other non faith-based institutions who are willing to join us in concretely realizing our vision of a city where no one is left behind. Therefore,

1. Any organization can join that has at least (25) active members and/or employees who agree to participate in a multi-racial, interfaith effort to organize Nashville-Davidson County.
2. Any organization can join that has a committment of people and money around a common agenda - not singular or exclusive interests.
3. Any organization can join that has a willingness to compromise and negotiate.
4. Any organization can join that has commitment to the equality of all people and to equal opportunity.
5. Any organization can join that has a willingness to support and implement decisions arrived at through a democractic process.

The Procedure for Extraordinary Membership Requests
The approach of any faith-based organization will receive regular staff consideration regarding membership. Any institution other than a congregation must proceed as follows:
1. The organizers will present the request to the Leadership Team.
2. If necessary, a representative from the organization will be asked to meet with the Leadership Team, and present their case for membership.
3. If the Leadership Team approves the request, the request moves to the Strategy Team.
4. If the Strategy Team votes no, the membership request is denied. If the Strategy Team votes yes, the membership request is granted.
5. Once membership is granted, the Leadership Team and organizers will negotiate fair and equitable dues with the organization.
6. A memo of understanding will be drafted, and made available to TNT members for review.
